Storytellers Theater Camp
for 10 - 14 year olds
At Storyteller's Theater camp, we will develop Storytelling skills through creative dramatics games
and exercises. This camp will appeal to natural born orators as well as kids who
dread having to stand in front of a class to make a presentation.
This camp has grown out of a theater camp for 6 - 11 year olds offered by
Storyteller Jo Walter over the previous six years. The Theater Camp photo album
gives some of the flavor of that camp: younger children with costumes, props and
sets. The one week camps were lots of fun, and the range of skills learned was
broad.
This year's camp will give older kids an opportunity to go a bit deeper,
developing storytelling skills that will serve them in many areas of life - from
the classroom to the stage!
We will build skills in expression, improvisation, comprehension, and listening. We will explore
our imaginations, learn how to communicate ideas, and to feel more comfortable
expressing ourselves - all within a supportive and fun group.
We will focus on the tools in the Storyteller’s Toolbox: the Voice, the Body
and the Imagination.
The emphasis is on the process, rather than the product. At the end of the
last session, the Storytellers will celebrate their week together with a Story
Concert for friends and family.
