Safety and Hygiene
Safety and Rules
On the first day, the kids will brainstorm camp rules. They will decide
what will be the consequences for breaking the camp rules. (My rules are
"Have Fun and Be Safe", but the kids won't know my rules until they have come up
with their own)
We will select daily "safety captains". On Day One, we will tour the farm
and the captains will note the "alert zones", places which must be off
limits or where we must be very careful/alert. We will understand that we are
"camping" on a working farm, and like on any work site there are hazards to be
aware of.
And we sing this ROUSING HEROIC song!
Safety Captains
They know just what to do!
Safety Captains
They take good care of you!
They wouldn’t want you
To come to any harm
In an accident
On Farmer Nikki’s Farm
Thank goodness for the Safety Captains!
On the first day we'll map out the plan for the five days of camp. Day
One will be the right day for kids to bring their ideas about camp songs, games,
activities, shenanigans they would like to put in the program.
We recycle, and strive to keep our "carbon footprint" small. There are
lots of opportunities for conservation lessons at camp. Kids are encouraged to
bring foods in reusable containers, reuse their lunchbags and reduce waste.
If all goes well, and the kids have shown they can be safe, we can look
forward to a campfire with s'mores on the last day!
Hygiene
The restroom is an outdoor flush toilet with a hot and cold water sink.
Remind your kids that they will be washing their hands after doing any
sort of work with animals and before eating.
